Shihan Kevin held a belt test for beginner ranks on March 12, inviting Shefali, Anthony, and Rithwik to show us that they were ready to progress in their martial arts journey. Each student did very well, and were promoted to their next rank: Shefali is now an Orange Belt, while Anthony and Rithwik were promoted to Yellow Belt. Congratulations to all — we can’t wait to see what you do next!
Happy Holidays! Pence Self Defense Academy will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, December 24-26. We will be open for Open Mat (come in and practice!) on Wednesday, December 23.
We will be open for classes the following week on Monday and Tuesday, December 28 and 29, Open Mat on Wednesday, December 30, and closed for New Year’s on December 31 and January 1. We will resume our regular schedule on Saturday, January 2.
Be sure to stop by the dojo to check out our new schedule, which adds Open Mat time during the week. Open Mat is a chance for you to come in and practice your material at your own pace. Instructors will be available to answer questions, but this is not a formal class time. If you’re interested in private instruction, see Sensei Kevin to make arrangements.

As a reminder, Pence Self Defense Academy will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen on Saturday, November 28, and look forward to seeing everyone there.
Pence Self-Defense Academy was well-represented at the World Martial Arts Federation Fall Tournament this past weekend. Each of our competitors left it all on the mat as they competed against students from schools all over New England. They should be very proud of themselves.

Adult Beginner Classes will be held on Mondays, from 6:30-7:30 pm, starting August 3rd, 2015. These classes are intended to be taken in conjunction with the regular adult classes (Tuesday & Thursdays, 7:30-8:30pm and Saturdays 10-11am). This class provides the opportunity for our newest students to develop their basic skills in a beginner-oriented environment.
Free intro lessons are available on Wednesdays between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. A sign-up form is available here; please indicate your preferred date and time, along with any questions, in the comment box. A member of our staff will be in touch to confirm.

Sensei Kevin held a black belt test on Sunday, May 17. Congratulations to our new junior black belts: Akash, Tina, Rayna, and Niyti. All four have worked long and hard to earn their new rank, and are a great example of the kind of martial artist all our students should aspire to be.
If you have sparring gear, please be sure to bring it with you to class on Thursday, February 26. We will be conducting inventory to make sure no one is missing anything.
